SVS.7ECT: PIC APPOINTMENTS
The Board needs to make two backfill appointments to the PIC for business
representative positions. The vacancies are a as a result of the resignation of Julie
Armstrong, Travelmain Ltd. , Walnut Creek, and Frederick Gaul, Sportsman Liquor, San
Pablo. Both had to resign due to changes in their employment whose time requirements
precluded them from continuing active participation.
The PIC consists of 20 members of the following composition:
Business 12 Community Based Organization 1
Education 2 Economic Development 1
Labor 2 Public Employment Service 1
Rehabilitation 1
The JTPA legislation requires the Board make its appointments from among individuals
nominated by organizations represented by each category. The composition of the PIC
is subject to review by the Governor, who periodically certifies that our PIC is
consistent with Federal and State legislation. State legislation requires PIC
vacancies to be filled by the Board within 60 days. The terms of these two
appointments would be through 30 September 1993.
Attached is a list of the current nominees from the Chambers of Commerce, plus their
personal data sheets.
When the Internal' Operations Committee made its. last business representative
appointments in October 1991, it was extremely impressed with two of the candidates and
found itself with only one vacancy. They requested of Mr. Jay Ripley that he keep his
application on file for the next vacancy.
Staff would encourage the committee to consider Sandra Norton for the other vacancy.
She is the only female business nominee at this tune that is actively interested in a
PIC appointment. She is a representative from a major employer, maintaining balance
on the PIC between large and small business, and she also would add a representative
from the San Ramon Valley, an area currently unrepresented on the PIC.

Employment Recruiter
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: I graduated from Colorado State University with a BA in foreign languages.
I also helped to reinstate a student exchange program with Fort Lewis College and La Academia Hispano
Americana in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I spent 6 months as an Exchange Student there. Professionally,
Marriott has put me through courses on Total Quality Management, Supervisory skills and computer skills.
00FESSIONAL AND FRATERNAL MEMBERSHIPS (including offices held):
I have been involved in many different committees and organizations since High School. In high school I was
involved in the yearbook and Newspaper Committee, Cheerleading and Student Council. In college I was
involved in Cheerleading, and I was the Little Sister President for Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. I was also involved
of the International Companion Program, Latin American Student Organization, Sigma Phi Iota (Foreign
Language Honor Society), and Spanish Club. Within Marriott I have been involved on the Quality Improvement
Team where I have acted as team leader, and I am an editor for the Marriott Newsletter.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:1 have been involved with the Mount Diablo Vocational Services Employer
Advisory Committee and have worked aggressively with MDVS to employ associates with a hearing disability.
SPECIAL INTERESTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: My first position with Marriott was as a College
Internship Recruiter and I had the opportunity to travel through the U.S. and speak about Marriott to College
students, and facilitate the internship program that went on with the Vail Marriott. I also was able to travel for
over a month to Chicago, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California and New Mexico with the Courtyard by
Marriott as a Bi-lingual facilitator for the Associate Opinion Survey. Before'l transferred to the San Ramon
Marriott, this hotel did not have any TJTC credit nor OJT programs. I brought in $18,000 in these areas
combined. Personal special interest are aggressive rock climbing and rappeling, reading and wine tasting, and I
enjoy a little Two Stepping and a good Country Swing from time to time.
