VanMarter Supervisor Powers Supervisor Fanden TO: Internal Operations Committee Supervisor Torlakson (Supe isorssSchrooder & McPeak) MON: . 4 #Xxecutive Director Private Industry Council SVS.7ECT: PIC APPOINTMENTS The Board needs to make two backfill appointments to the PIC for business representative positions. The vacancies are a as a result of the resignation of Julie Armstrong, Travelmain Ltd. , Walnut Creek, and Frederick Gaul, Sportsman Liquor, San Pablo. Both had to resign due to changes in their employment whose time requirements precluded them from continuing active participation. The PIC consists of 20 members of the following composition: Business 12 Community Based Organization 1 Education 2 Economic Development 1 Labor 2 Public Employment Service 1 Rehabilitation 1 The JTPA legislation requires the Board make its appointments from among individuals nominated by organizations represented by each category. The composition of the PIC is subject to review by the Governor, who periodically certifies that our PIC is consistent with Federal and State legislation. State legislation requires PIC vacancies to be filled by the Board within 60 days. The terms of these two appointments would be through 30 September 1993. Attached is a list of the current nominees from the Chambers of Commerce, plus their personal data sheets. When the Internal' Operations Committee made its. last business representative appointments in October 1991, it was extremely impressed with two of the candidates and found itself with only one vacancy. They requested of Mr. Jay Ripley that he keep his application on file for the next vacancy. Staff would encourage the committee to consider Sandra Norton for the other vacancy. She is the only female business nominee at this tune that is actively interested in a PIC appointment. She is a representative from a major employer, maintaining balance on the PIC between large and small business, and she also would add a representative from the San Ramon Valley, an area currently unrepresented on the PIC.
