IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Declaring )
May 7, 1992, as DON'T DRIVE ) RESOLUTION NO. 92/ 274
ALONE DAY in Contra Costa )
County )
Six million people reside in the Bay Area and operate four million
automobiles whose emissions diminish air quality. Air quality in
the Bay Area can be significantly improved through ridesharing and
reducing automobile usage, and the reduction of pollution can
produce many health benefits. Appropriate action to protect lung
health requires that individuals take personal responsibility for
clean air. The American Lung Association has designated clean air
a top health priority by designating May 2-8 , 1992, as the 20th
Annual Clean Air Week.
The Board of Supervisors urges citizens of Contra Costa County to
consider adjustments to their life styles, and in particular, their
driving habits to improve air quality and respiratory health. We
challenge our residents to observe May 7th, 1992, as Don't Drive
Alone Day by either using other means of transportation or to not
drive their cars unless accompanied by at least one other person.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
endorses the American Lung Association' s 20th Annual Clean Air Week
And declares May 7, 1992, as DON'T DRIVE ALONE DAY in Contra Costa
County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board urges the County
Administrator to involve all county employees in the Clean Air Week
County Challenge, a competition among the nine Bay Area counties
for the highest employee participation rate on Don' t Drive Alone
Day.
PASSED AND ADOP'T'ED ON May 5, 1992, by a unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
