HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05191992 - 1.32 1e32 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator Costa n1 s County DATE: May 13, 1992 SUBJECT: LEGISLATION: AB 2409 (Isenberg) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Agree to serve as a CO-SPONSOR of AB 2409 by Assemblyman Isenberg, if the bill is amended to add authority for the Board of Supervisors to increase the administrative fee charged by the Office of Revenue Collection for processing an account for a fine which is set up on an installment basis . BACKGROUND: Under current law, the Office of Revenue Collection is authorized to charge a fee which represents their actual costs for processing installment accounts where the Court allows a defendant to pay a fine over a period of some months. Under current law, however, this fee is capped at $30 per account. The Office of Revenue Collection has calculated their actual costs for processing these accounts . A minimal estimate of this cost is in excess of $35 per account. In fact, it has been estimated that the full cost of these- accounts may be closer to $100, when all possible costs are included. We have asked that the maximum fee be increased to $35 and Assemblyman Isenberg has apparently agreed to place such an increase in his AB 2409, which is serving as a "clean-up" bill for his Trial Court Reform Act of 1991. We are, therefore, recommending that the Board of Supervisors agree to serve as a co-sponsor of AB 2409, if the requested increase in the administrative fee for installment accounts is amended into AB 2409 .
