Dr. Rolf Sommerhaug has practiced medicine in Contra Costa County
for nearly 20 Years and has worked tirelessly to relieve suffering
and to reduce disability and death from heart disease, stroke, and
related disorders. This year, the Contra Costa County chapter of
the American Heart Association is recognizing Dr. Sommerhaug as a
"Heart of Gold" recipient at a dinner paying tribute to his years
of distinguished and dedicated service to the community.
In 1974, after two years of preparation and continuous hard work,
the heart surgery program at Mt. Diablo Medical Center became a
reality; and from its inception, Dr. Sommerhaug has continuously
been a prime contributor to its development as one of the premier
programs in Northern California. In 1986, he played a considerable
role in establishing the heart surgery program at John Muir Medical
Center and has contributed to its growth.
Dr. Rolf Sommerhaug has brought considerable skills and compassion
to the benefit of hundreds of patients in the last 20years,
resulting in the relief of suffering and additional useful years of
happiness for many. His example of excellence in his -field has set
the highest local standard for care and has served to inspire his
colleagues and others in the health care community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
declares May 28, 1992, as DR. ROLF SOMMERHAUG DAY in Contra Costa
County and gratefully acknowledges his devotion and contributions
to improving the quality of life and health in our county.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 19, 1992, by a unanimous vote of the
