Miner, Executive Director Costa Contra Costa County Private Industry Council =•,.� _ •`•.. 14 vv�7` DATE: County April 27, 1992 'Ta r ` SUBJECT:Acceptance of a $30,000 Donation from Chevron Corporation for 1992 SYJP Program SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)8 BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: A. For /the County Board of Supervisors to accept the private donation of $30,000 from Chevron Corporation for the purpose of generating summer jobs for unemployed youths in Contra Costa County; and whereas such acceptance complies with California Government Code Spction 25355; B. �To authorize the Executive Director of the Private Industry Council, to administer said funds for payment of wages and fringe benefits of youths hired temporary under the County's unsubsidized 1992 Summer Youth Jobs Program; C. To authorize said Executive Director to execute non- financial worksite agreements with local Employment Development Departments and Chevron Corporation; and to begin hiring youth on or after May 11, 1992, as temporary County employees, for subsequent SYJP worksite placements in supervised E.D.D. offices, Chevron Corporation and if other positions become available, with PIC selected Public and/or non-profit agencies; and D. To authorize said Executive Director to prepare a letter for all board members to sign expressing appreciation to Chevron Corporation for the continued support of the SYJP Program and donation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. Private Donation. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Chevron Corporation has continued to assist in alleviating the County's unemployment situation confronting our youth by making similar donations for the past nine years. The Summer Youth Jobs Program (SYJP) of Contra Costa County, continues to be an effective Program. What started out as a Project, has now become a Partnership between the County PIC and the Private sector to insure the welfare of our unemployed youth during the summer.
