CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Honoring )
DR. YOSHIYE TOGASAKI on the ) RESOLUTION NO., 92/315
Occasion 'of Her 88th Birthday )
Dr. Yoshiye Togasaki was recently honored by the Japanese American
Citizens League for her lifetime of community service and for her
dedication to the protection and promotion of civil rights for
every citizen of the United States of America.
Dr. Togasaki ' s commitment to promoting civil rights for all people
is an inspiration. Her efforts are vast and include fighting
housing discrimination against Nisei women students at UC Berkeley
during her college years, volunteering her medical skills to
conduct health education and screening programs for Native American
groups, defending Los Angeles nurses against wrongful discharge,
and testifying before the U.S. government on Redress issues. As a
public health officer for the State of California, she found and
reported on a situation of segregation of Black employees in Plumas
County; and as a public health professional in Contra Costa County
from 1951-1972, she concentrated on minority health programs
whenever possible. During this time, her special focus was to
develop public health services, for the handicapped and for
children.
Dr. Togasaki has helped shape our present-day and future attitudes.
For all she has accomplished and contributed to our county and our
country, we thank and commend her.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors
