IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 92/192
Commending William Bristow
upon his retirement from
the Brentwood Union School
District
WHEREAS,William Bristow is a long term resident of East Contra Costa County
and is a product of the local school system, having graduated from Liberty Union High School in
1953, and having received recognition for high achievements in academics, athletics, and student
government; and
WHEREAS,as an undergraduate, Bill Bristow attended San Francisco State
University, and graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton summa cum laude,
earning a B.A. degree in history and education; and
WHEREAS,Bill then received his M.A. degree in Educational Administration in
1963 from San Francisco State University and has completed further post graduate work at
Pomona College, California State University at Hayward, and the University of California in
Berkeley; and
WHEREAS,Bill put his education to use by serving as principal of the Edna Hill
School in Brentwood, federal coordinator for East.Contra Costa County Schools,
superintendent, as well as principal and teacher in the Knightsen School District; and
WHEREAS,Bill has also served as an extension class instructor on the faculty of
California State University at Hayward, and has instructed in the evening program for Los
Medanos College in Pittsburg; and
WHEREAS,Bill, in his spare time, has been active in several local and state
professional education groups, including serving as a past board member of Delta Memorial
Hospital in Antioch; and
Bill and his wife, Gail, are the parents of three children,Merridith,
Judith and David; and
WHEREAS,Bill Bristow is now retiring after having served as Superintendent of
the Brentwood Union School District for the past twenty-three years;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board
of Supervisors commends William Bristow for a lifetime of service to the children and
educational community of East County, especially the Brentwood Union School District.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 7th day of
April, 1992.
