OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Declaring Support )
for Lifespan,' the Run Across the ) RESOLUTION NO. 92/ 230
Bay Bridge for AIDS, the Environment, )
Youth, and the Arts )
There has never been a greater need for health and human services
that local non-profit organizations provide- than there is now.
Unfortunately, due to our tough economic times, most of these
agencies are suffering; however, a wonderful opportunity to raise
funds for these organizations has presented itself.
Lifespan, the Run Across the Bay Bridge, is a first-time athletic
event that will raise money to be donated to AIDS services, youth
services, the arts, and environmental protection. In total, there
are 40 Bay Area non-profit organizations that will benefit, each
providing vital services to local communities in the Bay Area and
each desperately in need of 'financial support.
Lifespan has been endorsed by the majority of the Bay Area' s
counties and cities and has the backing of many large, prestigious
corporations. The only opposition has been from Caltrans, who has
denied approval to close the upper deck of the Bay Bridge for four
hours on the morning of September 20, 1992.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors urges
the Governor of the State of California to authorize closure of the
Bay Bridge in support of this major civic event that will increase
funding for AIDS, youth services, the arts, and environmental
protection.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON April 14, 1992, by a unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
