THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on March 24 , 1992 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, Torlakson and McPeak
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Sale of Martinez Sanitary Service to Pleasant Hill Bay
Shore Disposal Company
Mr. Steve Roberti, Executive Secretary of the Central Labor
Council of Contra Costa County, appeared under the public comment
section of the agenda and provided the Board with copies of letters
sent to Teamsters, Local 315, and to one of the employees of ..Martinez
Sanitary Service relating to the sale of the Martinez Sanitary Service
to Browning-Ferris Industries of California, Inc. , to be operated by
the Pleasant Hill Bayshore Disposal Company.
Mr. Roberti expressed his concern for the employees of the
Martinez Sanitary Service who will be losing their jobs, and, if they
are employed by Pleasant Hill Bayshore Disposal, will lose their
seniority and other benefits. Mr. Roberti implored the Board to take
whatever action it could to assist these workers in retaining their
jobs.
Board members discussed the matter in some detail and
determined that the item was brought to its attention after the agenda
was posted, and unanimously agreed on the need to take immediate
action.
Good cause appearing therefore, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED
THAT the County Administrator is AUTHORIZED to send a letter to the
members of the City Council, City of Martinez, for consideration at
their March 25 , 1991 meeting, regarding the Board' s concerns with
respect to the sale of the Martinez Sanitary Service to
Browning-Ferris Industries of California, Inc. , and consideration for
the employees impacted by the sale.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED THAT the County Administrator is
AUTHORIZED to communicate by letter to Mr. Bisio, Browning/Ferris, and
Mr. Olney expressing the Board' s concern for the employees in the
merger/buy-out of Martinez Sanitary Service.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Supervisor Fanden is AUTHORIZED
to contact Mr. Bisio and Mr. Huguet (attorney for the Martinez
Sanitary Service) with respect to the above concerns.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Supervisor Schroder is AUTHORIZED
to confer with Mr. Olney to see what can be done on behalf of Pleasant
Hill Bayshore Disposal and Browning/Ferris for the affected employees.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that copies of the above letters be
sent to the Central Labor Council and Teamsters Local 350.
