HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03241992 - 1.19 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 92/171 Commending the Oakley Fire Protection District on the procurement and use of the Defibrillator WEEREAS,,Ehno and Margarethe Wurts have been the owners of the Sea Horse Marina in Bethel Island area since 1982 and have enjoyed good health up to the present time; and W]HEREAS,!,At 2:30 a.m. on the morning of January 11, 1992,Mr.Wurts awoke with "'heart burn", asked to,be taken to the hospital, and while en route, collapsed,whereupon Mrs. Wurts immediately called "911'; and WBFREAS,,Oakley Fire Department firefighters,arriving on the scene within minutes,upon determining that Mr. Wurts was without a heartbeat immediately applied CPR; and WHEREAS,,the Oakley Fire Department rescue van arrived and immediately hooked Mr. Wurts up to a new piece of life-saving equipment called"Defibrillator"whereupon, within a matter of minutes Mr. Wurts heartbeat was restored; and WHEREAS,;,the use of this new life-saving machine,which has the ability to analyze medical problems relating to non-breathers through an electronic voice which tells firefighters whether or not the patient has a pulse, then gives specific instructions relating to procedures to be followed to restore a heartbeat,literally saved Mr.Wurts life; and WHEREAS,:the Oakley Fire Protection District, using assessment funds provided by Measure H,was able to purchase the Defibrillator and train firefighters in its use, enabling this life-saving machine to be available for emergencies as of December 26, 1991; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors commends the firefighters the Oakley Fire Protection District for their prompt response and immediate and expert use of the Defibrillator as well as the District itself for its . procurement of this important piece of life-saving equipment. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 24th day of March, 1992.
