In the matter of Congratulating ).
Avon Wilson ) Resolution No. : 91/394
Lafayette Citizen of the Year, 1991 )
WHEREAS Avon Wilson has been named Lafayette ' s forty-second
Citizen of the year; and
WHEREAS Avon Wilson and her husband, George, raised their
two daughters , . Alisa and Alena, over the last twenty years in
Lafayette; and
WHEREAS Avon Wilson climbed aboard the volunteer express as
she and her friend, Lynn Hiden, successfully pressed for bike lanes
for Lafayette cyclists; and
WHEREAS Avon. Wilson strode into another big, needed project
when she turned Wally Costa' s dream of a trail connecting Lafayette
and Moraga into the reality of an East Bay Regional Parks District
trail straddling an East Bay MUD aqueduct by developing the route
and writing the grant proposal ; and
WHEREAS Avon. Wilson put her transportation and safety .expertise
to use on the Lafayette Traffic Commission from 1975 to 1979; and
WHEREAS Avon Wilson next turned her considerable energies to
a term on the Lafayette Planning Commission from 1979 to 1982; and
WHEREAS Avon Wilson made the logical leap from the Planning
Commission to the City- Council in April, 1982, with her winning
campaign and repeated the feat. for a second term; and
WHEREAS Avon Wilson defined another of her roles as a solid
waste exPert by serving on the County' s Solid Waste Commission,
Export Negotiating Committee, Landfill Siting Task Force, Plastics
Recycling Committee, and the Central Contra Costa Regional Recycling
Committee , to name a few; and.
WHEREAS Avon Wilson founded and is the Vice Chair of the.
Lafayette Youth Services Committee, diverting youngsters from the
criminal justice system, and providing healthy outlets for young
people in Lafayette to expend their energies .
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES
Avon Wilson on her selection as Lafayette ' s forty-second Citizen
of the Year; COMMENDS her focused dedication to the betterment of
Lafayette, APPLAUDS her years of diligent work on the County' s
solid waste issues, and EXTENDS to Avon Wilson its best wishes for
future professional and civic accomplishment and enjoyment.
PASSED and ADOPTED this eighteenth day of June, 1991 , by
the unanimous vote of the Board members present .
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct

Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
