COTT �y DATE: May 23, 19 91 d cfiuri SUBJECT: RELIEF OF CASH SHORTAGES - INMATE CASH FUND SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)S BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDATION: AUTHORIZE relief of cash shortages in the Inmate Cash Fund of the Sheriff-Coroner' s Office as recommended by the County Auditor- Controller, and District Attorney. II. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Cash shortages occurred in the Inmate Cash Fund between March 1, 1989 through February 1990 in the amount of $2, 396 .73 . The amount consists of $94 . 07 from the Marsh Creek Detention Facility and $2,302 . 66 from the Martinez Detention Facility. The shortages in inmate cash were the result of many reasons, including a tremendous volume of individual transactions and undoubtedly included employee error, computer system malfunctions and release of inmates with negative accounts .
