Consider requirement of a secondary command to dispatch service from the closest station within the district of the incident. Refer to the County Administrator to contact all East County Fire District Chiefs and Commissions, Local 1230, other fire district employee associations and the Emergency Medical Care Committee to collect information for the Internal Operations Committee to review at the earliest opportunity. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In recommending to the Board of Supervisors fire district master planning in the mid 1980's, I envisioned a more efficient and effective fire service. Many positive steps have occurred as a. result of the General Planning process and the finance 115-year" planning process . The Board of Supervisor's steps to implement a consolidated fire and emergency medical dispatch system have been positive. That system is scheduled to go on-line in the next few weeks . Since we requested that fire station locations be planned and implemented with minimization of response zone overlap and with the greatest efficiency of ;response in mind, I assumed that our new dispatch equipment and ,computer technology would implement a policy of "closest station" response. I understand, however, that there are several geographic locations where this may not happen. While the individual fire districts are discussing this issue I believe the Board of Supervisors should give some clear direction on our policy preference. Regardless of district boundaries, the citizens and taxpayers of our districts expect and should receive the quickest response possible in 11fe threatening emergencies . i CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT: YES SIGNATURE: RECOMMENDATION OF COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE APPROVE OTHER ` i SIGNATURE(S) ACTION OF BOARD ON May 7, 1991 i APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED X OTHER I VOTE OF SUPERVISORS i X UNANIMOUS (ABSENT ) I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THIS IS A TRUE AYES: NOES: AND CORRECT COPY OF AN ACTION TAKEN ABSENT: ABSTAIN: AND ENTERED ON THE MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON THE DATE SHOWN.
