Now, 25 years later Project Head Start has serviced over 10.9 million children nationwide. We applaud this terrific accomplishment. In Contra Costa County, over 800 children participate in the program annually. Without Head Start, children from low-income families would not receive the kind of early childhood education necessary for healthy 'development. . It also provides working parents quality child care so they are able to go to work knowing that their children are being cared for in a nurturing, educa- tional, and safe environment. We extend to the numerous providers and volunteers of Project Head Start our highest commendation for this vital program that has given millions of needy children a "head start" in life. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the 25th Anniversary of PROJECT HEAD START and wishes it another 25 successful years of operation.
