HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05071991 - 1.42 r THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 91/2 6 5 Honoring Chester"Chet"Case upon his retirement as President of Los Medanos College WFIEREAS,Chester "Chet"Case will be retiring in June as President of Los Medanos College, after over 35 years in the Meld of education; WHEREAS,Mr. Case is a graduate of El Cerrito High School and Reed College,received his Masters Degree and Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley, and began teaching in 1954, first at Sacramento High, then at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek and later Chabot College in Hayward. He then returned to UC-Berkeley as supervisor in teacher education coordi- nating the junior college curriculum program; (BEREAS,Mr. Case became a member of the original administrative staff of Los Medanos College in 1973 when he began as the Staff Development Facilitator; WHEREAS, he was appointed Dean of Social and Economic Sciences in 1978,and over several years also served as History Instructor and Director of General Education and Curriculum Development at Los Medanos College and as visiting lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley; WHEREAS,in 1985, Mr. Case was appointed President of Los Medanos College; WHEREAS,while Mr. Case was President,the enrollment at Los Medanos increased sharply due in large part to his dedicated efforts. He reached out to encourage minority enroll- ment,welcomed diverse viewpoints, promoted more involvement by the staff and faculty in the decision-making process, and in general encouraged academic excellence. WHEREAS,Mr. Case is recognized for his outgoing personality, "open-door"style in relat- ing to faculty members and students. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Super- visors hereby honors and recognizes Chester"Chet" Case on the occasion of his retirement and commends him for his many years of devoted service as an educator and his dedicated efforts to advance the benevolent interests of Los Medanos College, and the many ways, large and small,he has contributed greatly and added luster to his life's calling--education.
