HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05211991 - H.2 H. 2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA DATE: May 21, 1991 MATTER OF RECORD SUBJECT: Proposed change in name of Gay Court to High Eagle Road, Alamo area The Board on May 7, 1991 adopted Resolution No. 91/274 declaring its intention to change the name of Gay Court in the Alamo area to High Eagle Road, and fixing this date and time for hearing thereon. The Public Works Director reviewed the petition for name change and Resolution 78/612 setting forth the Board' s policy for name changes. The Public Works Director recommended the name change. proceed. Supervisor Schroder reviewed the petitions and the procedure and advised that it would be his intent to grant the name change. The Chair declared the hearing open and the following persons appeared: Don Brown, 314 Gay Court, Alamo, advised that the neighborhood had followed all of the steps set out in the policy for name changes and had paid the fee for administrative costs and street signs , and desired to have the name changed. Michael F. Ross-Smith, 2723 H Oak Road, Walnut Creek, urged denial of the petition. Allen Shore, 5310 Ridgeview Circle # 5, El Sobrante, a member of the County Human Relations Commission, expressed concern with the process. He urged the Board to name streets after people who are leaders. Sharon McCann, 80 Gay Court, Alamo, supported the name change. There being no further speakers, the Chair declared the hearing closed. Board members discussed the matter and the Board' s policy. Supervisor Schroder noted that 12 out of 13 property owners signed the petition to change the name, and therefore he would move approval. Supervisor Fanden advised that she would have a hard time voting either yes or no, and that she would abstain until the Board has a new policy that addresses the world in 1991. Supervisor Torlakson suggested approving without prejudice, and seconded the motion. The Board thereupon adopted Resolution 91/335 approving, without prejudice, the changing of the name of Gay Court to High Eagle Road. x.2 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 21, 1991, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson and Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: Supervisor Falhden RESOLUTION NO. 91.1335 SUBJECT: IN THE MATTER OF RENAMING GAY COURT (RD#4537A) IN ALAMO. Whereas this Board having heretofore on May 7, 1991, declared its intention to rename Gay Court in Alamo in Supervisorial District III; and having fixed May 21, 1991, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chambers of the Board of Supervisor, Administration Building, Martinez, California as the time and place for hearing on said resolution of intention; and Notice of said hearing having been posted in the matter and for the time required by law, as evidence by Affidavit of Posting on May 8, 1991, on file herein. Whereas on May 21, 1991, the time fixed for said hearing, the Board heard all those individuals who indicated a desire to speak, closed the public hearing and deferred decision to this date. Whereas the matter was before the Board for decision this day, and the Board having fully considered the matter. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the name of Gay Court be changed to HIGH EAGLE ROAD as follows: A. Existing County Maintained Road Beginning at the Intersection of Stone Valley Road and extending southerly and easterly, a distance of 0.28 miles; and B. Existing Non-County Maintained Road Beginning at the easterly end of the County maintained portion of said road and extending southerly to its point of termination I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of Orig.
