FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator �'' �'_ ?s Costa May 15 1991 " _ County DATE: y cO'Trq ft cA~, COUN SUBJECT: PROGRESS REPORT # 27 FROM O'BRIEN-KREITZBERG ON WORK ON THE COUNTY'S DETENTION FACILITIES SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION- Acknowledge receipt of Progress Report # 27 from O"Brien-Kreitzberg & Associates, Inc. on work on the County' s detention facilities for the months of January, . February and March, 1991 . BACKGROUND: Each month the County' s Construction Manager for the West County Justice Center, Marsh Creek Detention Center and Martinez Detention Facility, O'Brien-Kreitzberg & Associates, Inc. , files a progress report with the County on the work they are supervising on the construction of the West County Justice Center, Marsh Creek Detention Center and the Main Detention Facility in Martinez. ,Progress Report # 27 which covers the months of January, February and March, 1991 notes, in regard to the West County Justice Center, that the petitioner in the lawsuit has filed a motion for attorney' s fees. Subsequently, the petitioner and the County negotiated a settlement for $65,000 which has since been paid by the County. Due to code required changes not contained in the base contract documents, corrections to the perimeter security system and changes requested by the Sheriff' s Department, occupancy is now estimated for June 1, 1991. Construction is reported to be 99.90 complete. The remaining financial contingency is $458,648. CC: ATTESTED MAY 21 1991 PHIL BATCHELOR,CLERK OF THE BOARD OF County Administrator SUPERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Sheriff-Coroner � �� M382 (10/88) BYDEPUTY In regard to the Marsh Creek Detention Facility, the Progress Report notes that the County' s waterproofing consultant produced a report detailing their investigation of the shower area leaks. County Counsel has provided the contractor a copy of this report and has scheduled a meeting to discuss correction of the leaks with the contractor. In investigating the causes of the leaks, it- was determined that the tile was glued down over gypsum board arid' plywood, rather than being set in a cement base. Construction is reported to be 99% complete. The project is Within budget. In regard to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, the Progress Report notes that construction began on M Module on January 22, 1991. Currently the project is 83 days behind schedule. Completion is expected in late April, 1991. The project is over budget. Construction is currently 86% completed. Overall, the three projects are estimated .to end up $920,000 over original estimates.
