SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMCNDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the District Attorney, the Sheriff-Coroner, and the Probation Officer
to submit applications and execute grant award contracts with the State Office
of Criminal Justice Planning for funding of a Regional Anti-Drug Program in the
amount of $206,000, $198,000, and _$129,375, respectively, for the period July 1,

II. FINANCIAL IMPACT
None. The grant contracts will fund two (2) attorneys and one (1) clerk in the
Di-strict Attorney's Office; two (2) Crime Lab technicians, a clerk, and drug
a analysis equipment for the Sheriff's Office; and staff in the Probation

drug test results and devote more concentrated efforts to drug prosecution. The
Probation Department will operate a custody drug treatment program with project
funds.
IV,. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION
Failure to approve the recommendation would result in the loss of $533,375 in
federal funds available to combat the drug problem in Contra Costa County.
