BACKGROUND INFORMATION:- A community leader, Ms. Fran Jommen of the Contra Costa YWCA, recently inquired about the feasibility of establishing an "adopt-a-road" program so that community groups could- volunteer to assist the county in litter control and in exchange be acknowledged by the county posting signs. Similar programs have been developed for allowing community groups to adopt a park or favorite landscape median strip. These kinds of programs could stimulate community pride and accomplish a great deal of beautification and maintenance work that otherwise could not get done as regularly as we would all like. Donations of trees or other park equipment can also be recognized by special plague or sign.
