REPORT ON PLANS TO GO TO BID ON EXISTING SOCIAL SERVICE
SUBJECT: CONTRACTS
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Remove this item as a referral to our Committee and take no
further action on the matter at this time.
BACKGROUND:
For some time, our Committee has had on referral a question as to
whether the Social Services Department was going to recommend
that the contracts it has with private non-profit agencies in the
County which are funded with 100% County funds were going to be
put out to bid. The prospect of having to bid to continue
providing services which have been provided for several years was
of great concern to some of the affected agencies.
The motivation for considering putting some of these contracts
out to bid was that it would be necessary to do so if the
contract were ever going to qualify for additional federal funds,
should such funds become available. However, no such additional
funds have been identified to date.
As a result, the Social Services Department has agreed that, for
the time being, it will not go out to bid with the contracts
identified in the attached memorandum. There is, therefore, no
reason for our Committee to consider this matter any further.
