The State Capitol Exhibit Committee sent letters to several
organizations and businesses throughout the County in January
inviting them to submit pictures for use in the Exhibit. A letter
and "Picture Selection Guidelines" will be sent yearly to procure
new pictures for the exhibit. The next updating of the Exhibit
will be in October.
TEXT FOR NEW PICTURES FOR THE STATE CAPITOL EXHIBIT,
AGRICULTURE- APRICOT BLOSSOMS
Over 6,000 acres of fruit trees in Eastern Contra Costa County
provide a continual display of spectacular blossoms each spring.
The white bloom of almonds in mid February gives way to the
vibrant pinks of apricots and peaches in early to mid March. This
continues with the delicate white display of the apples and
the cherries through early April.
COMMERCE- MECHANICS BANK
It is for good reason that The Mechanics Bank has been known as
"The East Bay' s Most Trusted Bank" . And it is no accident that
the nation' s major rating services have named us among the three
safest banks in California. We are the only bank so honored in
Northern California.
INDUSTRY- THE DEXTER CORPORATION
Structural paste and film adhesives manufactured by Dexter
Adhesives & Structural Materials Division in West Pittsburg, CA
have been used in the aerospace industry for over 30 years on
commercial and military aircraft, helicopters, missiles,
spacecraft and for general aviation. Applications for Hysol
adhesive systems include bonding engine components, fuselage,
interior, main body and wings.
EDUCATION-OFFICE OF EDUCATION-ROP PROGRAM
"Serendipity" , a successful three-pronged vocational program in
Restaurant Occupations (ROP) , foods education and service
training (FEAST) , and commercial baking is taught by highly
qualified instructors and operated by CC County Office of
Education. A high percentage of graduates enter the Food and
Beverage industry and/or enroll in advanced programs.
LIFESTYLE- BOUNDARY OAKS GOLF COURSE
Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek is considered one of the
top 25 municipal golf courses in California. Opened in April
1969, Boundary Oak consistently attracts a high number of users.
In 1989-90, the 18-hole, 160-acre course reached a record 97,104
rounds. Photo by Brian Murphy
SERVICE- CONTRA COSTA WATER DISTRICT
Enhanced water quality and reliability--those are the primary
goals of the Los Vaqueros Reservoir, shown here as it will look
when filled in 1996. Located near Brentwood, the reservoir is
being built by Contra Costa Water District which serves 400,000
customers in parts of the San Francisco East Bay.
