HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04021991 - 1.27 1-0027 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator E "` Costa March 25 1991 R (� DATE: j -Y`wo County SUBJECT: LEGISLATION - SB 843 (Boatwright) SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION- Indicate that the Board of Supervisors is the SPONSOR, along with Public Employees Union, Local 1, of SB 843 by Senator Boatwright, which would make it possible for the Board to offer animal control officers safety retirement and would authorize the Board to negotiate with Local 1 the terms and conditions under which such safety retirement would be offered to animal control officers. BACKGROUND: As a part of the Board' s 1991 Legislative Program, the Board has agreed to seek legislation jointly with Local 1 which would do two things: 1 . In Contra Costa County only, expand the definition of safety member to include animal control officers, providing that the Board of Supervisors makes the section of law applicable in Contra Costa County. 2. Authorizes the Board of Supervisors only in Contra Costa County, to negotiate the terms and conditions under which the Board will consent to make animal control officers safety members of the retirement system, including determining that the employees shall pay all of the increased cost of such membership, including the employer' s share. Senator Boatwright has. agreed to author SB 843 to accomplish the necessary changes in state law.
