THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF "
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 91/244
Proclaiming May 6-12, 1991,
as "Clean Air Week"and
May 9, 1991, as "Don't Drive
Alone Day"in Contra Costa County
, the American Lung Associations of the Bay Area have made clean air
quality a top health priority;
WHEREAS, six million people who reside in the Bay Area operate four million
automobiles that contribute to diminished air quality;
WHEREAS, the air quality in the Bay Area can be significantly improved by ride-
sharing and reducing automobile usage;
WHEREAS,the reduction of air pollution can increase health benefits in the Bay
Area;
appropriate action to protect lung health requires that individuals
become aware of the capabilities and vulnerabilities of their lungs;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors does hereby proclaim the week of May 6 through 12, 1991, as"Clean Air Week"and
Thursday, May 9, 1991, as "Don't Drive Alone Day"to urge all Bay Area residents to take personal
responsiblity for clean air quality.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 23rd day of
April, 1991.
