HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04161991 - 1.21 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commending ) Rabbi Shelly Michael Waldenberg ) RESOLUTION NO. 91/ 223 on His Service to the Community ) WHEREAS Shelly Michael Waldenberg has served as the Rabbi of Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, California; faithfully and with distinction since October 3, 1972, and will resign as of September 1, 1991, in order to apply his many talents to other aspects of his life's work; and WHEREAS Rabbi Waldenberg has led his congregation during an unprecedented period of growth and spiritual maturity, and has carried out an exciting program of religious commitment, social justice, and continuing study of the moral teachings of Judaism, while officiating in religious services, counseling and other pastoral work, including conducting a wide range of classes; and WHEREAS he has developed and initiated inventive new programs such as Chavurot (friendship support groups); a weekly family school which has drawn national attention; an outreach program for the intermarried and for Jews by choice; an extensive para-rabbinic program designed to provide care and assistance to congregants, special; programs for youth; and a continuing program to assist refugees from South East Asia and the Soviet Union; and WHEREAS Rabbi Waldenberg has extended his work into the greater community with an ongoing monthly program of dialogue and study with members of the Lafayette Methodist Church and its clergy, fostering mutual understanding through study of sacred texts in both traditions and joint social action projects, exchanging pulpits and retreats; and supporting the Loaves and Fishes program which provides hot meals to needy families in Contra Costa County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, RESOLVED that Rabbi Shelly Michael Waldenberg is COMMENDED for his service to the citizens of our County; and IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board EXTENDS its greetings in appreciation of his work and wishe's him continuing success in helping provide understanding and tolerance for people ; of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds and in teaching the importance of a strong moral commitment as we go about our daily tasks. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 16th day of April, 1991.
