DATE: April 2, 1991 SUBJECT: ESTABLISH THE MONTH OF MAY, 1991 AS SENIOR CITIZENS ' MONTH SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION Establish the month of May, 1991 as Senior Citizens' Month. II. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND Traditionally the President of the United States and the Governor of California have declared May as Older Americans' Month and Older Californians' Month.- The Administration. on Aging, Department of Health & Human Services has developed a theme for this year entitled "Older Americans--Our Greatest Natural Resource. This theme seeks to emphasize the role of older persons as: --caregivers to other older persons, --intergenerational volunteers, -other types of volunteers, --employed workers --members of advisory committees and other voluntary bodies, and --skilled artisans The Social Service Department for its Office on Aging would like to express appreciation and gratitude to the 124, 000 persons age 60+ in the county and for their many contributions to the growth and development of our nation, state, and county by recommending that the month of May, 1991 be designated SENIOR CITIZENS ' MONTH.
