SUBJECT: Nursing Home Concerns
Supervisor Sunne McPeak brought to the attention of the
Board a situation involving three nursing homes in the Pleasant
Hill area. She advised that the Baywood, Sun Valley and Rosewood
Convalescent Hospitals, recently purchased by the Touchstone
Corporation of Oregon, are currently undergoing bankruptcy
proceedings. Supervisor McPeak noted that there has not been an
on-site administrator at the Baywood facility for several months,
and since there have been charges of patient abuse and neglect in
recent months, it is critical that the situation be monitored
closely to assure appropriate patient care. She recommended that
the Bankruptcy Judge be contacted relative to the Board' s concerns.
Supervisor Nancy Fanden advised that she had been
contacted by family members relative to patient conditions at the
Baywood Convalescent Hospital. She agreed with the need to closely
monitor activities at all three facilities to ensure patient
protection.
Steve Roberti, representing the Central Labor Council,
commented on employee concerns at the three facilities, and
recommended that these concerns also be brought to the attention of
the Bankruptcy Judge.
Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the
Health Services Director and the County Ombudsman are REQUESTED to
continue to monitor conditions and administration at the Baywood,
Sun Valley and Rosewood Convalescent Hospitals in Pleasant Hill.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Health Services Director
is AUTHORIZED to send a letter on behalf of the Board to the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court, District of Oregon, urging that patient care and
employee concerns be considered the highest priority for any
available funds.
