County Administrator 651 Pine Street Martinez, CA 94553 Dear Mr. Van Marter: I saw the list of organizations which were selected for membership on the county' s Agricultural Task Force. It should strike any objective person that the make-up would almost completely be from East County. Although significant , there is much more to Contra Costa agriculture than just East County. According to the 1989 crop report , 185 , 890 acres or 87% of all agricultural land is grazed and only 28 , 601 acres or 13% is vegetable and field crops . Also the majority of grazing land is west of Deer Valley ,Road (or according to the ASCS office - in West County) . Catemen are obviously under-revresent d.. On a production basis, livestock, _livestock products and -.nurse.ries com rise 48% in terms of dollars . On a supervisor' s district basis, ere will likelybe on y one member from Tom Powers and probably none from Bob Schroder, Sunne McPeak, or Nancy Fanden' s districts. ' I would suggest looking at a county map and county production records to come up with a better representative agriculturalTomsk orce. Then make a comparison to the proposed existing ,.Task Force. I am writing this letter as a concerned agricultural operator and landowner of a portion of over seven thousand acres in Contra Costa County. I am not writing under political pressure from any organization' s views or agendas . I am independent. I recuse to conveniently dry up and blow away from a cold north wind in spite of the drought .
