Social -Ser- vices program at Merrithew Memorial Hospital and its ambulatory clinics; super- vises, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate professional and clerical personnel ; and performs other. related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This single position class is distinguished by its specializatiron in , and overall responsiblity for hospital and clinic Medical Social Services manage- ment. It is distinguished from the Medical Social Worker (C-level ) in that positions in the latter class provide lead direction within components of the Medical Social Services program. The incumbent is supervised by and receives direction from a designated Hospital Administrator. TYPICAL TASKS: Plans, directs and coordinates the day-to-day activities of Medical Social Services programs within the hospital and clinic system; monitors performance of functional areas and recommends adjustments to enhance services and maintain compliance with JCAHO and Title XXII standards; monitors on-going Quality Assurance Plan; makes adjustments as needed to maintain quality; reviews, deve- lops and- implements current policies and procedures; prepares Medical Social Services budget and monitors expenditures; evaluates -the education and training needs of Medical Social Services personnel and directs the development and implementation of in-service programs; interviews, selects, assigns and evaluates the performance of subordinate Medical Social Services personnel ; oversees personnel administration and makes recommendations on classification, disciplinary, and other personnel actions as appropriate; consults with other health care staff as needed to provide coordination and integration of the Medical Social Services programs with the overall health care delivery system; prepares statistical reports on services provided; represents Medical Social Services at various meetings. May provide direct patient services when needed. i! MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or uni- vers�y ith a major in Social Work. EXPERIENCE: Four years of full time experience or its equivalent performing the duties o a medical social worker; at least two years of which were in a super- visory or administrative capacity. t KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: t Knowledge of accepted principles and practices governing the field of Medical Social Services; knowledge of Title XXII and JCAHO standards for Medical Social Services; knowledge of principles of personnel administration, knowledge of accepted supervisory, management and communication techniques; ability to. plan, direct and coordinate the activities of subordinate personnel and programs; abi- lity to maintain effective public and interpersonal relations with community groups, agencies, and the general public as well as facility personnel ; and the ability to prepare clear and concise written communications. f
