'91/ 18 0 SOCIAL WORK MONTH in Contra ) Costa County, ) People, as individuals and members of families, are our principal resource, and the strength of many individuals and families is challenged by pressures and lack of . resources. . Many of our citizens live in poverty, are physically or mentally handicapped, are chemically dependent, are new immigrants, are abused and neglected as children or aged, are mentally ill, or are struggling to cope with serious life stresses. Individual and family dysfunctions take their toll not only on individuals and families but on society as a whole. The tradi- tional goal of our nation and of the social work profession is to enable all our citizens to lead the most productive, satisfying, and independent lives possible. Professional. social workers perform an important service by helping others cope in difficult times and have been actively involved in the organization of programs to improve and enhance the strength of individuals and families. Social workers constitute the largest group of professionals engaged in providing psychosocial assistance, counseling, and services to the public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors -declares March 1991 as PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH in recognition of the role professional social workers play in providing opportunities for a life of accomplishment, dignity, and purpose and call upon members of the community to join with the social work: profession in support of appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities designed to achieve that goal. McPeak, District IV -s ORDINANCE NO. 91- 14 (Changing County Departmental Responsibilities for the Maintenance and Use of its Surplus Property Pool ) ` The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows (omitting 'the parenthetical footnotes from the official text of the enacted or amended provisions of the County Ordinance Code) : SECTION I. SUMMARY. This ordinance amends the County Ordinance Code to change the responsibility for the maintenance of the County' s surplus property pool from the auditor-controller to the general services department. SECTION II. Section 1108-2 .412 of the County Ordinance Code is amended to read: 1108-:2 . 412 Surplus Pool . Whenever any item of personal property is no longer needed by the office, department, or institution in possession of it, this fact shall be reported to the auditor-controller and the facilities management division of the general services department, who may transfer the item to a surplus pool to be maintained under the supervision of the general services department . Whenever any office, department, or institution needs an item which has been placed in the surplus pool or has requisitioned the purchase of a similar item, the purchasing agent may request transfer of the item to the department on a properly drawn request for transfer or requisition approved by the county administrator.
