HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03191991 - S.7 S, 7 i IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA, COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA j i In the Matter Supporting ) the Preservation of Contra j ) Costa's Trees Affected by ) Resolution 91J 164 Severe Drought Conditions ) I WHEREAS, trees block wind, settle dust and smog particles, reduce energy costs by shading buildings, absorb; carbon dioxide, reduce reflected heat from pavement and add value to property; and WHEREAS, in American citiesi four trees are removed for every one planted; and WHEREAS, a newly planted tree only needs 10 gallons of water per week to grow; and WHEREAS, significant water 'cutbacks and rationing are of great concern to all Contra Costa County residents; and WHEREAS, many street trees are suffering from the effects of the drought; and WHEREAS, in forested areas,jone of every three trees is dead or dying; and WHEREAS, at the current rate of loss, our urban and rural landscapes will be seriously altered; I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County understands the value of planting and preserving trees; and i BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board will continue to encourage the planting of new trees and appropriate watering and maintenance of existing ones throughout this drought period. i Introduced by: Supervisor Tom Powers District One i Passed and Adopted by a unanimous vote of those Supervisors Present on March 19, 1991 j I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on ATTESTED: March 19, 1991 Phil Batchelor, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors an County Administrator BY: A.
