Michael Walford, Public Works Director 1990 SUBJECT: Giant Road at Pt. Pinole Steel Co., Rich and PtIIL BATCHELOR CLERK BOARD OF SUPERVISORS N COSTA-,F-O. B .. c.. ... Deputy Reference is made to your memo dated June 4, 1990, in which you asked us to review the sight distance on Giant Road at the entrance to the Pt. Pinole Steel Co. You may recall that Giant Road at this location is entirely within the City of Richmond. To the best of our knowledge this Department has not had any previous involvement with the construction of the West county Detention Facility or the reconstruction of Giant Road. Our Traffic Engineering staff has reviewed Giant Road at the entrance to the Pt. Pinole Steel Company. Staff informed me that sight distance is restricted due to the way that the embankment was graded and landscaped on the County's Detention Facility property. Our staff recommends that the County shave back this embankment to increase sight distance. We also recommend that the existing painted stop line on the entrance to the Pt. Pinole Steel Company be relocated farther towards Giant Road. I also have been informed that George Roemer in the County Administrator's Office is primarily handling matters pertaining to the West County Detention Facility. For this reason I am sending a copy of this memo to him to inform him of the existing sight restriction problem. JMW:LLV:kd C:GiantRd.t6 cc: Members-Board of Supervisors P. Batchelor, Co.
