SUBJECT: Advocates for children's programs address to the
Board with respect to the State budget deficit and
subsequent anticipated impacts.
The following advocates for children' s programs appeared and
addressed the Board with respect to the State budget deficit and the
subsequent impacts on children' s programs in the County which they
anticipated:
Kathi McLaughlin, Child Advocate member of the Mental Health
Advisory Board, Co-Chair of the Family and Children' s Trust Fund, a
member of .the expanded Youth Services Board, and the Education
Director of the Oak Grove Adolescent Center in Concord.
Arlette Merritt, 2801 Robert H. Miller Drive, Richmond,
representing the Early Childhood Mental Health Program, thanked the
Board for what it has done and urged continued support for the Early
Childhood Mental Health Program.
Ken Jaffee, 924 Balra Drive, E1 Cerrito, representing an Ad Hoc
Committee on Human Services urged continued financial support and
urged that meetings to discuss budget cuts be made a public forum.
Board members expressed their appreciation to those appearing
here today for their continuing interest and support of children' s
programs. the
