BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 9 0/3 3 6
Commending Brian Bailey
on Saving the Lives of
Anthony Graves and his
Mother
on the morning of April 24, 1990,Brian Bailey, a firefighter for
Eden Consolidated Fire Department in San Lorenzo, as well as a resident of Discovery Bay
and a volunteer to the Byron Fire Protection District, observed a car swerving back and
forth across Highway 238 between Hayward and Oakland; and
WHEREAS,further observation revealed.a small child in the passenger seat
and no one visible in the driver's seat; and
WHEREAS,Brian also noted a 30-to 40-foot sheer embankment along the
highway; and
in trying to position his truck in front of the weaving auto,the
auto swerved into his truck and locked bumpers with his truck; and
WHEREAS,Brian then steered his vehicle into the right lane and slowly
applied the brakes,bringing both vehicles to a stop,thereby preventing a possibly very
serious accident and saving from serious harm a very brave Anthony Graves, 5 years old,
and his mother;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,CALIFORNIA,does hereby commend
Brian Bailey on his quickness of thought and action,his professional conduct in ensuring the
safety of the public at all times, and his notable concern for the safety of a frightened child.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this
5th day of June, 1990.
