SUBJECT: ACA 38/Alcohol Tax Initiative Issues
Supervisor Robert Schroder brought to the attention of
the Board the matter of material currently being broadcast on radio
stations relative to the Alcohol Tax Initiative. He noted that
there appeared to be misleading information included in the
material.
Supervisor Tom Powers commented on language included in
the Alcohol Tax Initiative relative to General Fund monies and
noted that perhaps that was the source of the allegations in the
material being broadcast. He recommended that County Counsel
analyze the impact, if any, that the Alcohol Tax Initiative would
have on other programs.
Supervisor Sunne McPeak commented on the County' s role
in educating the public, and recommended that a non-elected County
representative respond to the misleading campaign material being
distributed.
Supervisor Tom Torlakson advised that proposed
legislation ACA 38 , the alternative alcohol tax increase, had been
voted down in the Assembly. He recommended that letters be sent to
those legislators responsible for the defeat of ACA 38, expressing
the Board' s appreciation for their efforts. He also recommended
that letters be sent to those legislators who did not vote on the
measure, urging them to oppose ACA 38 in the event that it is
reintroduced.
Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the
following actions are APPROVED:
1. AUTHORIZED the County Administrator to send letters to
