Adopted this Order on June 26, 1990 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: Supervisor Fanden ------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT: ACA 38/Alcohol Tax Initiative Issues Supervisor Robert Schroder brought to the attention of the Board the matter of material currently being broadcast on radio stations relative to the Alcohol Tax Initiative. He noted that there appeared to be misleading information included in the material. Supervisor Tom Powers commented on language included in the Alcohol Tax Initiative relative to General Fund monies and noted that perhaps that was the source of the allegations in the material being broadcast. He recommended that County Counsel analyze the impact, if any, that the Alcohol Tax Initiative would have on other programs. Supervisor Sunne McPeak commented on the County' s role in educating the public, and recommended that a non-elected County representative respond to the misleading campaign material being distributed. Supervisor Tom Torlakson advised that proposed legislation ACA 38 , the alternative alcohol tax increase, had been voted down in the Assembly. He recommended that letters be sent to those legislators responsible for the defeat of ACA 38, expressing the Board' s appreciation for their efforts. He also recommended that letters be sent to those legislators who did not vote on the measure, urging them to oppose ACA 38 in the event that it is reintroduced. Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the following actions are APPROVED: 1. AUTHORIZED the County Administrator to send letters to legislators who voted to defeat proposed legislation ACA 38 in the Assembly expressing the Board' s appreciation; 2. AUTHORIZED the County Administrator to send letters to legislators who did not vote, urging them to oppose ACA 38; 3 . REQUESTED County Counsel to prepare an analysis of potential impact of the Alcohol Tax Initiative on other programs; and 4. DIRECTED the County Administrator, Health Services Director and County Counsel to prepare a rebuttal to misleading information being distributed by opponents of the Alcohol Tax Initiative. cc: County Administrator I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of County Counsel an action taken rn.d entered on the minutes of the Health Services Director Board of Supe rvis on the date shown.
