REPROGRAPHICS TECHNICIAN I
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This class is the first working level within the Reprographics Technician
Series and incumbents learn to perform a variety of printing, duplicating and
paper processing work using various machines which may include offset presses,
high speed copiers, photographic-direct plate maker, and metal plate burning
equipment. This class is distinguished from general clerical classes in that
duplicating machine or copier operation is an incidental aspect of those classes
and is restricted to the simplest duplicating processes. This class is
distinguished from the class of Reprographics Technician II in that the latter
performs work at the journey level .
TYPICAL TASKS:
Under close supervision learns to: Operate an offset printing press and
photographic direct plate maker used for the reproduction of a wide variety of
printed materials; receive and review the less complicated material to be
reproduced, in the operation of plate making equipment; make corrections and
prepare material for printing; photograph copy to make master plate or film
negative; make camera adjustments to enlarge or reduce size of image; adjust
camera exposure settings for variations in contrast and quality of originals;
set up and prepare presses for material to be reproduced; make adjustment to
press for material to be reproduced; make adjustment to press feeder mechanism
to allow for various sizes and weights of paper and for location of printed
image; adjust water/ink balance, ink and vacuum controls; assemble large books
and reports for collating, binding, stapling or punching; use various other
paper processing and reprographic machines; keep workspace and equipment clean;
lift and carry heavy boxes of paper; keep track of jobs for charge-out purposes;
assist co-workers in assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or a
high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: One year of fulltime, or its equivalent, experience in the
operation of office equipment to include copier, collator, electric stapler,
high speed copiers or other office or bindery equipment.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the
required education on a year-for year basis up to a maximum of two years.

reprographics work.

REPROGRAPHICS TECHNICIAN III
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This class is responsible for providing lead direction to subordinate staff
in the use and operation of a variety of reprographic and paper processing
equipment, and for providing efficient and economical printing and copier
services. The class is distinguished from the class of Central Service Manager
in that the latter has responsibility for overall management of the Central
Service Division's operations and provides supervision to incumbents in the
class of Reprographics Technician III.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Plans, assigns, and monitors work for employees operating offset printing
presses, paper processing equipment including platemakers, bindery equipment
such as paper cutter, folder, drill , collators, and high speed copiers; performs
the most difficult. printing assignments; instructs employees in the operation
and care of equipment; makes adjustments and minor repairs to equipment; plans
layout of complex or new work; assists management in evaluation of new and
existing equipment, techniques and processes; trains and reviews employee
performance and submits recommendations to the Central Service Manager; operates
offset presses, high speed copiers, or paper processing equipment including
collators and multi-station inserters; contacts departments to clarify questions
and makes suggestions on the most efficient and effective methods to perform
requested work; keeps track of jobs for charge-out purposes; lifts and carries
boxes of paper, equipment, and other heavy items; ensures that jobs are
performed safely with a minimum of waste; discusses work with vendors under
contract; orders supplies; and assists co-workers in assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency, or
a high school proficiency certificate.
. Experience: Three years of fulltime, or its equivalent, experience in
operating a variety of reprographic equipment including offset printing presses,
high speed copiers, and other paper processing equipment which involves the most
difficult printing assignments.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of printing and - other reprographics equipment
and processes including offset printing presses, and high speed copiers; good
knowledge of the papers, film, inks, chemicals and other materials used in
reprographics work; knowledge of platemaker and paper handling equipment, such
as the collator, jogger, electric stapler and multi-station inserter; ability to
adjust and make minor repairs on printing or bindery equipment; knowledge of
