RECOMMENDED ACTION: AUTHORIZE the Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa to make the Housing Authority's excess word processing and offset printing equipment available to North Richmond Neighborhood House for use in its Las Deltas Education and Training Center, as recommended by the Advisory Housing Commission. i II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The Housing Authority has some excess word processing equipment and offset printing equipment which it has attempted -to sell . During March this equipment was advertised in the Contra Costa Times and an extensive mailing was done. No bids were received. In April , the equipment was again offered in an extensive mailing campaign and at the Northern California Chapter of -the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officers spring convention held in San Jose. No bids were received. The Housing Authority has been in contact with North Richmond Neighborhood House, a non-profit agency providing services to residents of the Las Deltas public housing development and the surrounding community in North Richmond. One of the key programs North Richmond Neighborhood House is seeking to establish is an Education and Training Center. This center is being established in a community building adjacent to the Las Deltas Housing Authority office, which the Housing Authority leases to North Richmond Neighborhood House. North Richmond Neighborhood House would welcome the use of this excess word processing equipment and offset printing equipment in its Las Deltas Education and Training Center. The equipment would be used to train residents of the Las Deltas public housing development and the North Richmond community in word processing, offset printing and other office-related skills. The loan of this excess office equipment to North Richmond Neighborhood House for use in its education and training center would be of great benefit to the residents of the Las Deltas housing development. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: , Should the Board of Commissioners elect to not authorize the Executive Director to make this excess equipment available for use in the Las Deltas Education and Training Center, the opportunity to use this equipment to benefit the residents of the Las Deltas housing development would be lost.
