MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: June 12, 1990 SUBJECT: APPROVE Contract Change Order No. 28, Supplement 1 for the Appian Way Widening Project. Project No. 0662-6R4177-83, EI Sobrante and Pinole areas. Specific Request(s)or Recommendation(s)&Background&Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Contract Change Order No. 28, Supplement 1 in the approximate amount of$300.00 to compensate the contractor, Bay Cities Paving and Grading, Inc., for increased excavation costs. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The project contingency funds are sufficient to cover the change order costs. It is funded by Federal Highway,Administration (FAU-86%) and Local funds (14%). REASONS.FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Additional excavation costs resulted in the contractor paying additional dump fee charges. Because the cumulative total of this change order and previously approved change orders exceeds $25,000.00, Board approval is required. This change order represents the final step in settling the contractor's claims. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION The lack of approval .would preclude payment to the contractor for work accomplished.
