BACKGROUND On May 1, 1990, the Board of Supervisors confirmed the County Administrator's previous proclamation of a local emergency due to the 4 . 6 and 4. 3 Richter magnitude earthquakes which occurred. in the Alamo area beginning at 9:41 p.m. on April 27 , 1990. The proclamation was recommended by the State Office of Emergency Services, Region II Manager, as the initial step for the county to request state and/or federal assistance if the extent of damage had eventually been. determined to meet eligibility requirements. Staff of the County Building Inspection.' Department have made 120 earthquake related inspections which have revealed damage to 82 homes with total estimated damages of $585;750. . There was no major structural damage discovered. . Most of . the damage occurred to brick chimneys, masonry veneer and dry wall. The extent of damage does not qualify the homeowners for state or federal disaster assistance. Now that earthquake related damage has been determined and no request for assistance beyond that locally available is necessary, it is appropriate to terminate the local emergency proclamation.
