SUBJECT: Closure of the Martin Luther King Jr.
Family Health Clinic in Richmond
Supervisor Powers advised the Board of an item of concern that
was brought to his attention after the agenda was posted. He
referred to the closure by the State of the Martin Luther King Jr.
Family Health Center in Richmond which is scheduled to take place
on May 31 , 1990. He noted that the Health Center, beset by
financial problems and loss of staff, has lost its state contract
for the care of 1 ,100 Medi-Cal patients. Supervisor Powers
expressed concern with the negative impact the closure could have
on the Richmond community and therefore recommended that this
matter be referred to the Health Services Director for report as
soon as possible.
Board members being in agreement, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED
that the Health Services Director is REQUESTED to report on April
10, 1990 on the status of the Health Clinic and to recommend any
action the County might take to preserve this community resource.
1 hereby certify that this Is a true and correct copy of
an action taken and entered on the minutes of the
