MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: April 24, 1990 SUBJECT: INCREASE of Project Contingency Funds and APPROVAL of Contract Change Orders No. 2, Supplement 1 and Change Order No. 5 for the 1986 `C' Overlay Project, Project No. 0662-6R4081-85. specific Request(s)or Recommendation(s)&Background&Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE Project Contingency Fund increase of$10,000.00 and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Contract Change Order No. 2, Supplement 1 and Change Order No. 5 in the approximate amounts of $8,000.00 and $14,000.00 to compensate the contractor, Bay Cities Paving and Grading, Inc. for increased flagging costs and unforseen extra work. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The increase in the contingency fund will be funded by the City of Orinda and the County. The County's share comes from funds received under Senate Bill 300. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Additional flagging cost was required to improve safety and extra work unforseen on the original plan. Because these change orders and previously approved change orders exceed $25,000.00 Board approval is required. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the payment to the contractor for work required for the successful completion to the contract.
