HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04171990 - S.3 S.7 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the matter Declaring ) the week of April 22-28 ) RESOLUTION NO. 90/ 228 as Hunger Awareness Week ) in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, the need for food for the hungry in Contra Costa County is increasing; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County emergency food pantries provided three-day food baskets to more than 92,000 people in 1989; and WHEREAS, demand for the services of the soup kitchens of Contra Costa County have increased by more than twenty percent over the last year; and WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of our community's pantry and soup kitchen workers make a significant positive impact in addressing the problems of hunger in Contra Costa County. WHEREAS, steps can be taken by local agencies and jurisdictions to improve this dramatic situation which threatens the health and well-being of our community; and WHEREAS, the real answers to the problem of hunger require the education and involvement of the entire Contra Costa Community; and WHEREAS, this declaration of Hunger Awareness Week will be a first step toward publicizing this important issue and garnering additional support from all sectors of the community in the fight against hunger; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors declares the week of April 22nd - 28th, 1990 as Hunger Awareness Week.
