HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04171990 - 1.63 1-063 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on APRIL 17, 1990 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , McPeak, Schroder, Torlakson, Fanden NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 90/235 SUBJECT: INDICATION OF COUNTY SUPPORT FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR CALIFORNIA RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICTS AND SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Resource Conservation District and the Soil Conservation Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, has and continues to provide valuable technical assistance to the farmers and ranchers in Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS the Resource Conservation District and Soil Conservation Service have been instrumental in completion of several important flood projects in Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS the continued assistance of these organizations is needed to finish the Marsh-Kellogg watershed work plan improvements on Kellogg Creek in the Byron area to protect farm lands from continual flooding; and WHEREAS the services of these agencies is needed to help.farmers and ranchers minimize erosion and pollution from the agriculture and open space areas in the County thereby helping the County in meeting the federal non-point source pollution regulations; and WHEREAS this Board concurs with the California Associations of Resource Conservation Districts that the activities of the Resource Conservation Districts and Soil Conservation Service in California are under funded in comparison to the other states in the United States and that a $15,000,000 annual supplemental allocation to the present funding level is needed to meet the tasks at hand; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County SUPPORTS the efforts of the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts and REQUESTS the Congressional representatives for Contra Costa County to join with the other Congressional representatives from California to obtain the necessary supplemental funding. FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Board is DIRECTED to send a copy of this resolution to U.S. Senator Alan Cranston, U.S. Senator Pete Wilson and Congressman George Miller.
