SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE LANDSCAPING OF DETENTION BASINS, OAKLEY AREA
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. Recommended Action:
AUTHORIZE the Chief Engineer to complete final grading, installation of irrigation facilities, and
landscaping for the following detention basins in the Oakley area:
a. Del Antico Basin, Drainage Area 29E
b. Housing Authority Basin, Drainage Area 29E
C. Laurel Drive Basin, Drainage Area 30A
d. Teakwood Basin, Drainage Area 29C
II. Financial Impact:
The estimated cost for all of the work at the four basin sites is estimated to be $120,000. Each
drainage entity will be charged for their actual costs.
III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
The immediate capital improvements to drain the detention basins have been met. It now is
important to landscape the basins to improve their appearance and acceptance within the
community. The work shall consist of finish grading to shape the basins and spread the topsoil
deposited as a part of the Lindsey Channel project; to secure domestic water for each site for
irrigating the new trees, and to plant trees on the basin banks.

To the maximum extent possible volunteer labor will be used. Prior to planting, a neighborhood
meeting will be held at each site to discuss the proposed species of plants to be installed.
The landscaping plans will be made compatible with potential future use of each site for park
purposes.
A Negative Declaration was completed for each basin site at the time of inital construction.
IV. Consequences of Negative Action:
The basins will remain barren.
