SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(.S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION
Accept report from the Community Development Department Director
regarding the status of environmental documentation for the Shell
Oil Company Hazardous Waste Storage and Incineration Facility.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION%BACKGROUND
On September 19, 1989, the Community Development Department
reported to the Board on Shell Oil Company' s request to continue
to operate four hazardous waste incinerators, and the State
Department of Health Services' compliance with the requirements
of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) . The Board
requested that the Community Development Department keep the
Board informed about the State Department of Health Services'
action pursuant to CEQA.
On February 15, 1990, the State Department of Health Services
issued a Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the Shell Oil Company
Hazardous Waste Storage and Incineration Facility. The County
has 30 days from the receipt of notification (March 22, 1990 ) to
submit comments regarding the scope and content of the
Environmental Impact Report.
Our Department has distributed the NOP to the County Health
Services Department and the Public Works Department. We will
continue to coordinate the County' s response to the NOP with
those departments.
