requirements, minimum standards nor any program regulations.
The result has been a lack of consistency among the counties
in California.
SB 1344 is an attempt to address these problems. It requires
a 3 month 30 hour minimum treatment and education program for
all who are arrested and convicted for DUI on or after January
1, 1990. This Program is to be licensed by the State. The
proposed program revises our current program in order to
comply with SB 1344.
Because the nature of the program has changed from education
to treatment and it now has complex rules and regulations,
additional administrative staff will be necessary to
administer and monitor this program. The costs of this
additional staff will be derived from the program fees.
