CENSUS AWARENESS WEEK )
The Census is mandated by Article 1 , Section 2 of the United
States Constitution, and April 1 , 1990, is the 21st population
count in our nation' s history. The federal census is required
to count everyone regardless of age, race, creed, sex, color,
place of birth, status of citizenship, and nature of domicile.
We recognize that census data is not made available to
immigration or naturalization services, the Internal Revenue
Service, law enforcement agencies, or public assistance
agencies.
The 1990 Federal Census will be the basis for apportioning the
U.S. House of Representatives, the State legislators, and local
districts, as well as the allocation of essential federal and
state grant programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
proclaims March 25 - 31, 1990, as CENSUS AWARENESS WEEK to
encourage all Contra Costa County citizens to complete the
census data questionnaire and return it so that an accurate
population count can be accomplished.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON March 27, 1990, by a unanimous vote of the
Board members present.
