MICHAEL WALFORD, CHIEF ENGINEER DATE: March 27, 1990 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR SUPPORT FROM CONGRESSMAN GEORGE MILLER DURING BUDGET HEARINGS FOR COUNTY WIDE CORPS OF ENGINEERS PROJECTS Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification I. RECOMMENDATION Request Congressman George Miller to support the Walnut Creek and Wildcat-San Pablo Creeks Corps of Engineers projects during federal budget hearings on April 4, 1990. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT It is proposed that Contra Costa County receive $6.7 million of Corps of Engineers projects for federal FY 90-91. Failure to approve the funds will increase local share of the project costs or may cause abandonment of the project. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND The California Water Commission has adopted final recommendations for FY 1990-91 funding for federal water and flood control projects which includes the following Contra Costa County projects: a. Walnut Creek Basin - General Investigation - $150, 000 b. Walnut Creek - Construction - $4,800, 000 c. Wildcat and San Pablo Creeks - Construction - $1,700, 000 Funds for items "b" and "c" are necessary to complete projects currently under construction while item "a" will determine the feasibility of future federal projects at four different locations. � I
