schedules will be determined in early summer, 1990. While CALTRANS
has announced financial shortages, the I-680-24 improvements are a
part of the Federal Interstate Improvement Program and have a high
priority. Completion of all the I-680/24 improvements is expected
to take seven (7) years.
During construction reduced vehicle capacity and increased traffic
congestion must be expected. Use of carpooling, vanpooling, and
public transit by commuters will be crucial to avoid gridlock.
Additionally, use of carpooling, vanpooling, and public transit is
critical throughout the Bay Area as a measure to alleviate air
pollution.
