WHEREAS, Saint Paul Parish was founded in 1864 as a mission of the 0ld
St. Mary Church in Oakland and was created as a parish in 1869 on land
donated by former Governor Alvarado in San Pablo; and
WHEREAS, its tower bell , paid for by the children of the Sunday School
was brought around Cape Horn in 1870; and
WHEREAS, the present church building was begun in 1927 and the Rectory,
Parish Hall and School were built between 1950-55; and
WHEREAS, in the 125 year history of the parish, many celebrations have
taken place, among them are almost 10,000 Baptisms, 4000 Confirmations,
8000 First Communions and 2600 Weddings; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately 2000 people who attend services at St.
Paul Church each weekend where services are conducted in English,
Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Tagalog; and
WHEREAS, there are almost 30 groups and organizations who are connected
with and meet in the parish facilities, among which are support services
for the developmentally disabled and homebound and those in convalescent
hospitals;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra
Costa County hereby congratulates Saint Paul Parish on the occasion of
its 125th anniversary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors commends Father
Allen Ramirez, Father John Farao, Brother Robert Oullette, Brother
Carlos De La Cerda and their parishioners for the dedicated service they
provide in the community.
