MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR 1 11 DATE: June 6, 1989 SUBJECT: INCREASE of project contingency funds and APPROVAL of Contract Change Orders Nos. 5 and 6 for the Pleasant Hill Road Slide Repair, Project No. 0671-6R6775-86 in the Walnut Creek area. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE project contingency fund increase of $1, 600. 00 and, AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to execute Contract Change Orders Nos. 5 and 6, each in the approximate amount of $900. 00 to compensate the contractor, L & S General Contractors, for increases in contract quantities. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The increase in the contingency fund will be funded by the Federal Highway Administration. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: Work unforseen on the original plans was necessary to complete the contract. Because this change order and previously approved change orders collectively exceed $25, 000. 00 Board approval is required. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The lack of approval would preclude the payment to the contractor for work required for the successful completion of the contract..
